Our philosophy on the REEL OBSESSION is rather simple – Have Fun, Catch Fish & Learn! We want to ensure that our clients have a very memorable experience and are educated about this most wonderful resource we have at our disposal. Not too many people realize what Lake Michigan has to offer, and we want to share this with you, our potential customers. We will strive to do everything within our ability and experience to provide clients with a fun, and lasting experience, along with sore arms!

THE BOAT.

REEL OBSESSION is a 1995 Hydra-Sport walk-around sport fishing boat with a length of 27’-1” and beam of 9’-5” and has been owned and operated by Captain Kurt Hantsche for the past 12 years. It has all of the needed safety gear required by USCG for operation on Lake Michigan powered by a 7.4 liter Volvo-Penta inboard/board engine. The boat has room for a maximum of seven people (five clients, first mate and captain) and its cabin contains a small head/bathroom with macerator pump.

It is equipped with Raymarine electronics including radar, GPS and sonar fish finders. It has an ICOM marine radio for boat-to-boat communication. All of the fishing rods and reels are Shimano (Talora rods and Tekota reels). Boat is equipped with four Cannon MAG10 electric downriggers with Positive Ion Control. The boat is also equipped with two Taco Grand Slam 20’-0” outriggers mounted to the hardtop.

Reel Obsession, in my opinion, is a first rate, class act, top notch, professional guide service on Lake Michigan. I have fished Lake Michigan for 15 years and was highly impressed with their knowledge base of the underwater currents, structure and temperatures as far as where, how and when to fish various areas of Lake Michigan. I learned a lot just talking to them. Furthermore, they are very personable and easy to get along with. I found their boat to be very comfortable and clean. Once they found the right combination of factors on the Lake we had 2 fish on at the same time, within 20 minutes of putting our 1st line in the water.

I have fished with Captain Kurt on the Reel Obsession a few times. It’s always a great time and we always catch fish. Captain Kurt is one of the best fishermen on the lake and it shows. He knows the lake and where/when to go to catch fish. His enthusiasm for every fish is contagious. He truly loves fishing and really enjoys seeing his customers land fish. The vessel is one of the nicest and safest in the marina and always a smooth ride even on some rougher days out. It gets us in and out quickly which means more time to catch our limit!
